dolls

i've never really been into dolls. i was that little girl that insisted on having toy cars instead of dolls, and i broke my mothers heart when i wanted to be a ninja turtle for halloween instead of a princess.
I've been unemployed for about a year now (hoping to hear from a job this week) and i've had a lot of time to watch youtube videos and play around online. a couple of weeks ago a came across some art dolls, and spent two days looking at art dolls online. For those of you that make things, you'll understand what i mean when i say that my head was dizzy with inspiration. i looked at my husband and said, "i'm going to be a doll maker." i dont know if anybody will ever buy my dolls, and its almost impossible to think that i could ever make a living off of my art, but i cant help but dream of it.
so i sat down to create my first doll. i dont have access to a kiln, and paper pulp clay is too difficult to work with in detail,so i picked up a bucket of crayola air dry clay. this is my first doll, and i am really happy with the way it turned out. i feel like i have a natural talent for it, and i'm going to make many more....selling them or not.

altered matchbox

there is a challenge on craftster.org right now to alter a match box for valentines day. here is my entry. i wanted it to look like if you were scouring an old attic and found a small jewelry box of your great great aunt when she was young and in love with a soldier.

altred book pages

i have a couple new pages this week. i was at fred meyers last night looking at books, and i found a few for kids calld "push and pull books" i went through them and there wasnt a single thing to push or pull. it made me sad. snyway, my altered book has lots of things to pull and move.

altered book

altered books are something that have always fascinated me, and that i've enjoyed making. AFter my last altered book, i didnt work on anything involving art for about 4 months. i picked up a new book to work in, and it seems like my style has finally come to be where i like it.i always thought that if i practiced more, i would get better, but it seems that for me, taking a break was the best thing i could have done. so i'm a few pages in, and i'm going to post them here, and at least once i week i'll try to post the new pages.

consignment

i am so excited, i found a store that i can sell my stuff at on consignment! i highly doubt this is going to be a big money maker for me, but thats not the point. i create because i love to create. if one person buys one thing, i will feel satisfied. mainly i just want my things to be seen, and just one person enjoying it makes my day. i do have the dream that a career as an artist devolopes, but i wont get my hopes up.so i'm putting together a collection of cards, and some hats, and cat toys to take down there, and i'll keep you guys updated.

money = quality?

It is often said that you get what you pay for. sometimes that is true, but not as often as one might think. i am a bargain hunter! I know that i can get quality things inexpensively. that is why i get so upset when i'm tricked. over a year ago, i bought a pair of $20.00 jeans from old navy. six months ago, i bought a pair of $40.00 jeans from fred meyer (on sale from $60) . i never ever pay that much for anything clothing related, but i wanted a pair of jeans to fit well, and last.
so here i am with only one of those pairs of pants left. the old navy pants that i bought for 20 bucks over a year ago, are still in excellent condition. the 6 month old, #40 pants from fred meyers literally fell apart.
My point is just that it is silly to pay more than you have to. there is no bennefit to paying more for hoity toity labels, if they arent going to last.
